Archivio storico UniCredit

UniCredit’s Historical Archive was created in 1951 to preserve the Bank’s documents, starting from the time it was established in 1870 as Bank of Genoa, which later became Credito Italiano S.p.A. and, finally, UniCredit S.p.A.
Today the archive is the outcome of the convergence of the historical heritage of over 100 banks that operated between mid-15th century and early 21st century, including Rolo Banca 1473, Cassa di Risparmio di Verona Vicenza Belluno e Ancona, Cassa di Risparmio della Marca Trivigiana, Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto, Cassa di Risparmio di Trieste, Banco di Roma, Banco di Santo Spirito, Cassa di Risparmio di Roma and many more.
UniCredit places at the disposal of scholars, users and visitors the archives of joint-stock company banks at the two branches of the Historical Archive in Milan and Rome; the documents of public banks, of savings banks and of pawnbroking establishments at the banks or historical archives of local public administrations to which they have been given on a gratuitous loan for use basis for thirty years.

The selection published herein includes several documents of the bank Credito Italiano, chosen from the most significant ones to underscore relations between la Rinascente and the Bank during the period 1930-1937; correspondence between Banco di Roma and la Rinascente in 1929; and a promotional video produced by the Cassa di Risparmio of Rome regarding compartments created in four leading department stores of the capital city, including la Rinascente in Piazza Colonna, in 1946, to record participation in the loan to reconstruct the country.
